I am even more impressed with the quality of this raffia market tote than I anticipated. The slim line of contrasting tan raffia stitching along the bottom and side panels of the bag certainly adds to its good looks. The overall size of the tote is perfect for picking up multiple items from the farm market and the leather handles are so convenient for slinging over my shoulder to allow for hands free shopping. I bought this item on sale from ROCKFLOWERPAPER website and feel that even at full price, this tote would qualify as a very worthwhile purchase!

Our beautiful raffia totes are made by artisans of a fair trade and women owned company in Madagascar. The entire production process is done by hand, from weaving, to dying, to sewing.

With the intention of her business being a model for fair trade enterprise, the founder’s mission is to seek out and provide work for illiterate, poor, and disadvantaged people who are willing to be trained and work. Her business now employs hundreds of people throughout Madagascar who have become highly skilled artisans who specialize in weaving, crocheting, braiding and hand stitching, providing a livelihood for families who can support themselves today and build future opportunities for themselves and generations to come.
